Good afternoon,everyone.
  I’m Patten Kuo……
The subject of today’s presentation is “WanWan’ President Election In LuLu’s Eyes”
Maybe you’ll ask what do “Wanwan” and “Lulu” mean?
It’s quite interesting.In2014,two years ago,the young peopole from the biggest Baidu post Bar,like the FB page,“Liyi bar”,with 22million users, almost equals to Tanwanese 23million population flood in FB to leave millions of words to oppose Taiwan indendence.
After that,”LuLu” means Mainland and Mainlanders,”WanWan” means Taiwan and Taiwanese.
  To return to the subject.
I’ll give you an overview of 2016 Taiwan Presidential election by watching a short video.
  She is Tsai ing-wen
He is Ma Ying-jeou,the panda refers to mainland China.
Tsai took the place of Ma.
People in green refers to the DPP supporters.Democratic progressive Party,DPP.
  James Soong.
They enter into a competition for President success.
As we all know, China-friendly Ma refers to Ma Ying-jeou,He has sent much more kindness to mainland China.
  Eventually,Tsai ing-wen won.
Now I’ll give you an overview of democrary prosess of Taiwan.
228 incident. We have been familiar with it.
Taiwan leaves the UN when the international body switches recognition to the mainland China.

Chiang Kai Shek passes away and Vice President Yen Chia-Kan (嚴家淦) assumes control of the government as interim leader.
Chiang Ching Kuo (蔣經國), son of Chiang Kai Shek becomes president.
President Chiang pledges political reform including a free press, the formation of opposition parties and the right to lawful assembly.DPP appeared.
Chiang Ching Kuo passes away and Lee Teng Hui becomes president.
Government allows the formation of new independent television stations.
KMT presidential candidate Lien Chan (連戰) and Independent James Soong (宋楚瑜) are defeated in elections by opposition party candidate Chen Shui Bian (陳水扁) ending half a century of Nationalist rule over the island.
Ma Ying Jeou (馬英九) returns the KMT to power.

Sunflower (太陽花學運) protests take control of legislature in order to pressure government to stop taking unilateral “black box” (黑箱) action with regards to relations with mainland China.
Nine in One elections (九合一選舉) take place for all the cities and counties in the country and KMT is dealt a massive defeat forcing President Ma to step down as the chairman of the party setting up a battle for 2016 presidential and legislative elections.
We can easily conclude that the road of Taiwan’s democratization went through ups and downs for several years.
Fortunately,as we can see, democracy comes into being a lifestyle of taiwanese.
taiwan is approaching toward dempcratization step by step.
  Now is Yang’ turn.
Here is another question: Is democracy the best system?
From my point of view,I don’t think so.
We made an online questionnaire about our subject few days ago.Unfortunately, the questionnaire contains few sensitive questions, for example,”Does democracy work in mainland China in your mind?”,

Therefore, after receving 50 reactions, our questionnaire was deleted by the questionnaire platform.
Fortunately,we searched another report carried out by American political researchers in 2015,Roberto Foa and Yascha Mounk.
Let’s glance over it together in few minutes.
Americans trust their political institutions less
Young Americans are giving up on politics
Most millennials don’t think it’s essential to live in a democracy
A growing number of young Americans think democracy is a bad way to run the country
More Americans want the Pentagon to take over
I’ll talk about democracy in ancient Greece.
Many modern democracies reconciles this conflict by having citizens elect those they consider qualified to legistate on their behalf. But this poses its own problems, including the influence of wealth and the emergence of professional politicians with different interests than their constituents.

Could reviving election by lottery lead to more effective government through a more diverse and representative group of legislatures?
Like Athenian military command require specialized knowledge and skills?
You probably shouldn’t hold your breath to win a spot in your country’s government. But depending on where you live, you may still be selected to participate in a jury,a citizens’ assembly,or a deliberative poll. All examples of how the democratic principle behind sortition, still survive today.
  Thanks for listening& sleeping
